Message from the Chairman of the Board

Greetings from KBS,

KBS is the only independent school in this region.  “Independent” refers to a not-for-profit institution overseen by a Board of Directors.  The operation of the school is delegated to the Head of School and his or her administrative team, but the ultimate responsibility for the sustainability and viability of KBS rests solely with the Board of Directors.  Our Board is strictly a governance board dealing with policy, fiscal management and long term planning.

What is it that makes KBS special, and why would families make the financial commitment to send their children to our school?

KBS provides its students with a safe, nurturing environment, where individual differences are respected and a zero tolerance policy exists for all forms of bullying.  Our school has a faculty and staff committed to our vision, who routinely “go the extra mile” to meet the needs of our students.  Small class sizes, a challenging academic programme based on the provincial curriculum, but with enhancements, and individual attention for our students, combined with many extra-curricular opportunities, are all part of the KBS experience.

Our parent body embraces KBS, as evidenced by the hundreds of hours volunteered to various school functions, and by the generous support of fundraising initiatives.

KBS is committed to providing its students with a strong academic foundation for studies beyond elementary school.  We strive to develop solid global citizens, by fostering independent thinking and being committed to character development.

“I can, I will” is more than our motto, it defines us.

Sincerely,
Howard Gwin
Chairman of the Board, KBS
